Spring is a time of optimism and fresh hope, the long dark days of winter finally giving way to warmer sunshine, as new shoots begin to poke their heads bravely from their hibernation underground. The sun is out longer and we all feel a little brighter, energised with all the new growth and promise around us.
How would your creative life be different if you were able to feel this same kind of Springtime hope and promise, whenever you wanted? If you were able to always be excited at the new growth appearing in your creative work? Motivated by fresh creative ideas, potential and possibilities beginning to flourish all around you?
Well, there’s plenty you can do to make this a reality. Here are 5 top tips on how to feel the joys of Spring all year round in your creative life:
1. Keep the new shoots budding. For all of us who create, it’s important to have a steady flow of new ideas coming. Even if we don’t use each and every one, it keeps us fresh and inspired, and by having a constant supply we don’t spend hours agonising over a blank page or canvas. Capture ideas as soon as they come to you in an Ideas Journal. The more you use it, the more ideas will come, ensuring you always have new creative shoots budding.
2. Regularly Spring-clean. Spring is a good time to dust off the cobwebs and the slumber of winter, and get ready for a fresh start. But this needn’t only happen once a year. Keep on top of the gathering dust and clutter in your creative life – the unfinished projects, the piles of papers covering your workspace, the unusable materials you haven’t got round to throwing out – and it’ll help you always feel as fresh and energy filled as in Spring.
3. Experiment by growing new varieties. In Spring, the inspiration of new growth around us means it’s an ideal time to try growing a few new varieties in your garden. Translated to your creative life, you can have this kind of experience all year round by regularly experimenting, trying new materials, techniques and creative forms, to keep you evolving as an artist and ever excited by new possibilities.
4. Encourage new growth in others. Even if much of your creative time is spent alone, it’s important to interact with other creative artists and colleagues. A step further than this, it’s a great win-win situation to support the creative growth of others. They flourish with the support and encouragement, and you become more motivated and inspired in your own work when you see someone else’s work and talents blossoming.
5. Enjoy the sunshine. It doesn’t matter how sunny it is outside if you walk around with your eyes closed. It’s easy to overlook all the good stuff that’s happening around us in our creative lives and see only what’s lacking. Take time to regularly enjoy the sunshine by listing the good that’s happening that’s happening in your creative life. The more you take time to notice the sun on your face, the more optimistic and motivated to create you’ll be.

So true! Enjoying the sunshine and remembering all the good things in one's creative life.
I have a garden outside and lots of plants inside the house year round, funny how I never made the connection between creativity and gardening.
Thanks for this.
